Reuse of the purified water is an additional advantage the Glendon® BioFilter System has over other methods. Reuse relieves environmental damage caused by extraction of water from underground aquifers and rivers, while reducing utility water bills.
The water from a BioFilter can provide valuable nutrients for plant life of all kinds. There are at least three levels of water use for landscaping and irrigation available to a Glendon® BioFilter System owner.
A simple BioFilter, designed to wick its water directly into the soil at its base, has two planting environments. In the flat top of the BioFilter the water level is constantly a few inches under the sand surface. This makes a lush environment for many exotic plant varieties, or various ground covers suitable for the sun/shade characteristics of the site. Lawns are discouraged since they require maintenance such as mowing. One owner found that conditions were ideal for blueberry bushes. Planting larger items such as shrubs and small trees around the toe of the berm at ground level, where the water wicks directly into the ground, provides beauty and fruit.
A third level of use can be added by using the flow from the BioFilter to irrigate additional lawn and shrubs. We recommend an underground distribution system to conserve water and nutrients.
The Glendon® BioFilter System performs the alchemy to transform a disposal problem into an opportunity for a fresh smelling, lush, healthful, refreshing environment that conserves resources and benefits wild life.
